Getting started at YCSSW
We are committed to fostering a learning experience that empowers a diverse cohort of students to reach their full potential.
ACHIEVE BETTER GRADES BY UTILIZING YCSSW WEEKLY BLOCK MODEL
The teaching and field work practice of Social Work methods go hand in hand. At Bachelors and Masters Level, you need to complete multiple subjects at the same time. YCSSW Weekly Block Model provides you an opportunity to be fully focused on each subject.
This allows you to focus, reinforce concepts through practical learning and quickly implement feedback. It means that if you are fascinated by a subject, you can delve deeply and immerse yourself in it. With the YCSSW block model, you have a better chance of achieving academic success.
The teaching methodologies and facilities are in tune with the needs of the Social Work profession. The distinguished faculty and dedicated support staff work in tandem to achieve goals.
YCSSW has a systematic teaching-learning and evaluation plan. The Institute gives freedom and support to faculty members to use innovative methods to make teaching-learning more student-centered and to foster interactive, collaborative, and independent learning among students.
Lecture is the primary mode of teaching, supported by interactive sessions like group discussions, case presentations/seminar presentations and field work conferences.
The different learning abilities of students are taken into account in the teaching-learning process. Learner-centric approach is taken in tandem with course objectives. ICT-enabled methodologies are adopted to equip learners to compete in a tech-savvy environment.
The lecture-cum-demonstration method is complemented by role-play, brainstorming, case studies, case presentation, games, simulation, field application and success stories. Self-study by students with guidance from teachers is encouraged. Besides personal mentoring, students are encouraged to work in teams. Stress is laid on innovative strategies that involve experiential learning through research, fieldwork, case studies and project work.
Faculty members attend workshops, seminars and training sessions and share what they learn with the students. Meditation techniques are also used to improve students’ concentration. Curriculum is enriched with information on by taking feedback from alumni, employers and students. Students’ are updated through guest lectures on topics outside the syllabus.
The below table explains the process of curriculum implementation:
BUILD CONFIDENCE FROM DAY ONE
Block classes are interactive sessions where you are empowered to share ideas, debate concepts and explore learning opportunities. Learning in small, collaborative working groups with classmates and your teacher, you will feel more confident to speak up than in the standard lecture environment. The progression of subjects in the Block Model will give you early feedback and success, which means you, can build confidence in your studies from day one. While we are temporarily teaching in hybrid mode, our Zoom classrooms allow for breakout rooms just like a campus classroom, where you work in small groups before coming back to the class to share your ideas.
FOCUSED TIMETABLES = MORE FREE TIME
The consistent and focused timetabling of Block classes allows you to have more time for work, social life, caring responsibilities, sport, and everything else that’s important to you. Each unit typically has three hour, face-to-face teaching sessions per week, scheduled over four days. Due to COVID restrictions, many classes are running via Zoom.
TEACHERS GET TO KNOW YOU
At YCSSW your teachers will know you by name. Because the class sizes are small, you get to know your classmates and teacher, and become a working team. It means that if you are having difficulty with a concept or a task, the teacher is there to provide 1:1 support and help you when you need it. It’s a true partnership. As YCSSW is the only college under Shivaji University offering BSW and MSW courses, the Institute plays a key role in Social Work curriculum design and development. YCSSW faculty members are actively involved in framing the syllabus at the University level. Syllabus revision workshops are organized in the campus.
